Today was enlightening on many different fronts. First off, I want to thank all that chimed in on my post about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It was very helpful and I hope that after my job training tomorrow (unrelated) I will have a better idea of what's going on. And secondly, I learned that the loose steering and vibrations I was feeling stemmed from an apparently bent front left rim.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The bent rim isn't immediately noticeable because it just so happens to be located on the inside where it's not visible to the world. I had thought something weird had to be going on based on the lack of play in the wheels when they were off the ground. What made me even learn of this was the slow leak that was happening to both front wheels (this ultimately happened to be corrosion on the inner lip of both rims). It required me to get the wheels off the car so that I could find out why they were leaking. And after getting the tires cleaned up, re-inflated and re-balanced, most of the vibrations and all of the play is gone! Huzzah!
So next time things don't make sense, first place to check is the potentially bent rim from the undeniably terrible roads. (Seriously, my neighborhood has perfect rectangles cut out of the concrete and filled in with asphalt that slow disappeared until there was nothing left but a freaking hole. Thanks, Obama!)
(Unrelated but amusing.)
